Annual 18th Century Christmas Market
Prickett’s Fort State Park
Join us for hot food and live music during a special winter tour of the Fort and Job Prickett House. Buildings will be decorated for the season, interpreters will be on hand with information and demonstrations about 18th and 19th century holiday traditions and the Museum Shop will feature traditional gift items in the Visitor Center. Tours of the fort require a ticket and Visitor Center is open without additional charge.

Run to Read Half Marathon
Prickett’s Fort State Park
This half marathon race to benefit Literacy Volunteers. Starts at noon on the Marion County Rail Trail starting at Prickett’s Fort. Registration will take place in the Visitor Center.

School of the Longhunter
Prickett’s Fort State Park
An intense weekend of instruction exploring the role of early frontiersmen on the American frontier. Speakers will focus on the frontier skills of the longhunter. Space is limited and registration required. Visitors welcome during daytime hours with no admission charge.

Come celebrate the joys of spring with a Saturday morning bird walk. Staff of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will lead the public on this annual rite of passage. Programs begin at 8 am. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring binoculars. Meet in the lower parking lot.

Jones Imboden Raid Civil War Day
Prickett’s Fort State Park
In April 1863, Confederate forces invaded Fairmont, Virginia (now West Virginia), in an attempt to gain control of the strategic B&O Railroad and capture Francis Pierpoint, Governor of the Reorganized Virginia. The park will commemorate this event through various reenactments and demonstrations. Regular park admission applies.

Community Band Friday

Come out for a summer evening of band music by local musicians under the direction of Fairmont State’s Dr. Valarie Huffman. Concerts begin at 7 pm in the park’s outdoor amphitheater. On June 20, 1863, West Virginia became the 35th state to enter the Union. Come and celebrate West Virginia Statehood with $1 park admission and free birthday cake and lemonade.

Eastern Woodland Indian Summer Camp
Prickett’s Fort State Park
Campers will learn about the culture of the Eastern Woodland Indians. Camp is 10 am – 4 pm; on the third day, campers spend the night. Open to students in grades 6 – 12. $100 fee.
Free to students in GEAR-UP schools completing grades 9 or 10.

Free Outdoor Concert – Hillbilly Gypsies

Join us at 7 pm for this free summer concert with the Hillbilly Gypsies. The Hillbilly Gypsies are a West Virginia native string band who specialize in playing their own homegrown style of Appalachian old time music, mixed with a hard driving bluegrass sound. In addition to their original material, the Hillbilly Gypsies play an eclectic mix of traditional and quite often, not-so-traditional bluegrass standards and catchy old fiddle tunes.

The Fort buildings and Job Prickett House will be decorated for the season and costumed vendors will be inside with their handmade 18th and 19th century wares. Artisans demonstrate as possible. The Visitor Center will feature additional gift items. Christmas Market is open free of charge and food will be available on site. Live music will be featured daily.
